New Study Report: Resilience of European Food Systems - Research and Innovation Mapping and Insights

Study Report: Resilience of European Food Systems - Research and Innovation Mapping and InsightsThe SCAR Food Systems Working Group, with the support of RefreSCAR, has published a new study report titled 'Resilience of European Food Systems: Research and Innovation Mapping and Insights', authored by Yuna Chiffoleau and Linda Rosengren.

Resilience has become a defining theme in research, innovation and public policy against a backdrop of multiple and interlinked crises. This report maps and analyses R&I on food system resilience over the past decade, drawing on a systematic review of 163 projects, an online survey and five case studies.

The findings reveal a marked increase in food system resilience R&I since 2015, but also a significant imbalance: most projects focus on the resilience of primary production to climate change through technical approaches, while transformative, holistic and governance-oriented perspectives remain underrepresented.

The report offers timely recommendations for Food 2040, the European Commission's forthcoming strategic R&I agenda on food systems, pointing to the need for greater investment in systemic approaches, supply chain resilience and R&I on cascading and compound risks.
