Animal Health & Welfare report on EC Framework Programme 10 expectations

Report SCAR Questions FP10 AHWAHW CWG produced a report on their expectations for the EC Framework Programme 10.

AHW CWG considered that FP10 'should prioritise the translation of scientific results into practice; ensure early involvement of the private sector in research activities to drive innovation and accelerate the uptake of solutions; develop mechanisms to bridge the gap between research and commercial application, while protecting intellectual property and fostering collaboration.'

A key priority must be the adoption of a holistic One Health approach that integrates animal health and welfare, environmental sustainability, and human health. In this context, animal welfare stands as a key pillar, requiring better assessment tools, improved housing and microclimate conditions, and a deeper understanding of animal cognition and emotion.

AHW CWG members believe climate change and freshwater availability need to be considered in all activities, and that communication between science and policy, and between science and society, must be improved.
